How can you detect the presence of rodents in your buildings or in your environment?

In our various articles, our intention is to inform and guide you in the management, control and relocation of insects, pests and unwanted rodents. Prevention remains your first lever of integrated pest management for you, your family and your loved ones. There are several clues to detect the presence of rodents in your environment or in your buildings.

Here are our 5 clues:

  • Excrement: The presence of excrement along walls, in kitchen cupboards or near any opening can be an excellent indication of a minor or major problem. The size can vary from 3 to 8 mm for mice and up to 20 mm for rats. Appearance: “fresh” droppings are generally shiny, soft and dark.
  • Friction: Rodents tend to use the same paths and runways repeatedly. As they tend to run along walls, you may see traces of greasy deposits along their route or near openings. A mouse can fit through a hole as small as 6 mm (1/4 in).
  • Nibbling: Rodents can nibble on any material that is softer than their teeth. Keep an eye out for any small pieces between 2 and 4 mm.
  • Urine: This clue is obvious, especially when the population is high. If you detect the presence of liquid, do not hesitate to contact an expert. Rodent urine can carry viruses and cause significant damage.
  • Visual: This clue is often clear that your problem is real and that the population may be growing. The mouse can reproduce quickly, up to 5000 individuals per year. The mouse is rather curious. Whereas the rat is suspicious.

In short, having an integrated control plan is essential to counter intrusions and prevent considerable damage to your property. But even more importantly, prevention helps preserve your environment and improve your quality of life! The threshold for intervention will depend on several factors.

In all cases where your problem persists or worsens, the presence of an expert in pest management and extermination remains the best solution to help you resolve your concern. Un technicien qualifié et certifié vous proposera des solutions et des stratégies pour retrouver votre tranquillité d’esprit et vous éviter de perdre de grosses sommes d’argent.
